May 1, 2025: Dr. Schroeder’s application to the New Faculty Seed Grant Program 2025, entitled “Building Metabolic Models for Astrocyte-Neuron Metabolic Coupling from FABP7”, is selected for funding.

April 25, 2025: Our collaborative research article entitled “Astrocyte FABP7 modulates nocturnal seizure threshold and activity-dependent gene expression in the mouse brain”, has been accepted by the journal PNAS Nexus. The article will be available soon, stay tuned!

March 20, 2025: Dr. Schroeder’s first (review) publication as a independent PI is accepted and published in Plant Physiology, entitled “Fermi calculations enable quick downselection of target genes and process optimization in photosynthetic systems”.

October 17, 2024: NASA announces funding of The Biology in Space: Establishing Networks for DUrable & REsiliant Systems (BioS-ENDURES) consortium (PI: Kristi Morgansen at the University of Washington), a $2.5M and 5-year project including over 30 researchers from across the state of Washington at UW, WSU, and PNNL. The Schroeder Lab will participate in this through the modeling of plants, microbes, and their interactions. More details and project specifics to follow.

October 4, 2024: Wheaton Schroeder is accepted as a faculty member in the WSU Protein Biotechnology Training Program, a long-running trainee-centered multidisciplinary program bringing together faculty and trainees across four colleges and five departments/schools at WSU.
